We Have Copyright Issues

Here’s a video from TED with Lawrence Lessig from 2007, a long time ago (depending on who you are), but nonetheless, just as relevant as when his words were spoken (and probably still spoken as I’m sure he hasn’t changed his mind).

I first came across Lawrence Lessig through his book Free Culture, and I must admit I think it was really intriguing. What he does is draw parallels between what’s happening now with all the things our new technologies enable us to do, and compare it to earlier technology development where common sense (which is not that common) made the people of that time realize they had to make changes to “allow” the new technology to develop further. And yes, he is talking about copyright law. I particularly like his parallels to aviation technology and owning property back in the days. Watch it, and ENJOY!
