Fra YouTube til Hollywood, (From YouTube to Hollywood) writes the Norwegian news site Aftenposten and Rushprintbloggen – blog for the Norwegian film industry magazine Rushprint. Something amazing happens when an unknown filmmaker can upload a film she/he has made which again let´s the whole world take part in her/his creativity. So why is the overall film industry so scared of what this technology offers? I thought we wanted people to see our films. Don´t we? Naturally I understand the whole lost profit issue – but why not embrace it? I accidentally stumbled upon an example of embracing it the other day.
The other day I was looking for a music video from the artist Ian Brown, and I found a video with the song F.E.A.R, one of Ian Brown´s hits, This video is made entirely of footage from Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix. There is no doubt about this being a breach in copyright – but you know what? Ian Brown has a guest appearance in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – which I thought was really cool being a fan of both! This appearance is so minimal that you won´t spot it unless you´re fan of Ian Brown or already know about his appearance. It only lasts for like 5 seconds! With of music and footage this combination Harry Potter fans and Ian Brown fans are united – and in addition, the audience who likes both are thoroughly pleased. And in turn more people get to meet the wonderful two worlds. I´m not sure if the copyright owners of the music or the footage are aware of this video being out there – but if they´re not – I certainly hope they won´t pull it off YouTube.
It made wanna watch the film again! What do you think?
